Natural Pressure Ulcer Treatment and
Diabetic Foot Ulcer Treatment
How is a pressure ulcer/ decubitus ulcer treated?
Immediate treatment is necessary because a pressure ulcer can
worsen very fast!
The healing of a decubitus ulcer takes usually longer than
for other wounds since the blood circulation of the patient was slowed
down by the pressure that caused the ulcer. A good blood circulation
however is needed for a wound to heal faster.
The first step is of course to keep the wound away from any
pressure causing situations. Therefore patients that have to lie in
bed or cannot move on their own have to be repositioned frequently,
at least every two hours.
It is important to keep the wound clean at any time.
Dead tissue needs to be removed in order to avoid bacterial
infections. The pressure ulcer needs to be treated with wound
ointments and antibiotics if a bacterial wound infection is
present. In severe cases with very deep wounds, the decubitus ulcer
needs to be surgically removed.
An alternative pressure ulcer treatment is the topical
application of Active Manuka Honey.

How do you apply Active Manuka Honey to treat a pressure ulcer?
|
Depending on the size of the decubitus ulcer, apply 1-2
teaspoons of Active Manuka Honey to a sterile gauze and place
it as first layer on the wound. Active Manuka Honey is acting as a
non-sticky antibacterial wound dressing that is not causing any pain
when removed. Usually it is enough if you hold this first
gauze with a skin tape in order to avoid leaking. If you wish you can
also place a second sterile and dry gauze on the wound before fixing the
wound with rolled gauze wrap to keep the layers in place.

When changing the wound dressing wash the affected area gently
with warm water in order to prevent infections. You should change
the honey wound dressing every 12 hours. The length of the
healing process depends on the size and depth of your wound, however it
usually does not exceed more than three weeks. Once the sore disappeared and
the skin of the affected
area is dry (not crusty) you can stop treating it.
How are diabetic foot ulcers treated?
While suffering from the diabetic foot ulcer any
weight bearing activities for the feet, like normal walking,
should be avoided. Therefore crutches or a wheelchair might be
useful. Closed and tight shoes also have to be avoided. There are
plaster casts, healing sandals and special shoe inserts available.
A diabetic foot or leg ulcer needs to be treated with wound
dressings, ointments and if necessary antibiotics.
Active Manuka Honey can be the ideal
wound dressing for diabetic foot or leg ulcers. It is 100% natural and
has no known side effects. At the same time it provides dual
antibacterial strength.
