Bed Sore Treatment – Natural
Healing of Bed Sores
Immediate treatment of pressure sores is necessary because a
pressure sore
can get worse very fast!
The healing of a bed sore takes usually longer than the
healing of other wounds since the blood circulation of the patient was
slowed down by the pressure that caused the sore. A good blood
circulation however is needed for a wound to heal faster.
The first step of a bedsore treatment is of course to keep the
wound away from any pressure causing situations. Therefore
patients that have to lie in bed or cannot move on their own have to be
repositioned frequently, at least every two hours.
It is important to keep the wound clean at any time.
Dead tissue needs to be removed in order to avoid bacterial
infections. The pressure sore needs to be treated with wound
ointments and antibiotics if a bacterial wound infection is
present. In severe cases with very deep wounds, the bedsore needs to be
surgically removed.
An alternative pressure sore treatment is the topical application
of Active Manuka Honey. Many doctors and nurses in New Zealand are
treating bed sores with Active Manuka Honey.

Honey as
natural wound dressing and why Active Manuka Honey can help healing
bed sores so effectively
Depending on the size of the bed sore, apply 1-2 teaspoons
of Active Manuka Honey to a sterile gauze and place it as first
layer on the wound. Active Manuka Honey is acting as a non-sticky
antibacterial wound dressing that is not causing any pain when
removed from the sore. Usually it is enough if you hold this first gauze
with a skin tape in order to avoid leaking. If you wish you can also
place a second sterile and dry gauze on the sore before fixing the wound
with rolled gauze wrap to keep the layers in place.
When changing the wound dressing wash the affected area gently
with warm water in order to prevent infections. You should change
the honey wound dressing every 12 hours. The length of the bed
sore treatment and healing process depends on the size and depth of the
wound, however it usually does not exceed more than three weeks.
The bed sore treatment can be ended once the pressure sore disappeared
and skin of the affected area is dry (not crusty).
