What you need to know about your
wound
It is a myth that a wound needs to be dry in order to
heal. A moist environment has proven to provide the best
circumstances for fast healing. In order to heal, a
wound needs to be nurtured so that skin tissue can grow back.
Another myth is that the formation of a scab promotes
healing. A scab is nothing else but dead cell material that
will actually deprive the tissue underneath of the nutrients and
water that it needs to re-grow. Scabs cause scars, since it
does not let the tissue grow back at the same level as the rest of the
skin. The new tissue lies below the scab and thereby at a lower level
than the rest of the skin. Once the scab falls off, the skin that grew
underneath will stay at a lower level and a scar will be noticed. In
order to avoid the formation of ugly scars it is necessary to nurture
the wound right from the beginning so that the tissue soon
grows back to the same level as the rest of the skin.
